A quick tour of editing versioned data using SQL

Any edits the client made that violate the geometry updates and true curve settings of the feature service will not be synchronized with the service. See Creating versions and setting access permissions and Working with version properties for more information.

The reconcile operation checks for such conflicts. As you edit the ArcSDE geodatabase, you work within your own view or geodatabase state; no one else sees your edits until you save them. To edit, connect to a specific geodatabase version from ArcMap and add data that has been registered as versioned to the map.

Regardless of how many versions you have, each table and feature class is stored only once in the database. A quick tour of editing versioned data using SQL To edit versioned data from a SQL client, you must edit a versioned view of the data, not the base business table itself.

How To: Maintain DBMS referential integrity with ArcGIS and non-versioned data

When you register a dataset a feature class, feature dataset, or table as versioned, two delta tables are created: On the other hand, editing nonversioned data is the equivalent of performing standard database transactions. Update Child FK attribute.

Read-only fields will remain read-only in the downloaded data. Enable archiving on the datasets. This applies the modifications you made into the other version. When you edit through a versioned view, edits are recorded in the adds and deletes tables. This example shows the tree view of the dialog box, depicting the Default version and four other versions, and how the versions are related.

When you edit nonversioned data in an ArcMap edit session, you edit the data source directly. If adding constraints to the Foreign Key, the editing workflow may be impacted to ensure compliance with the constraints.

This rolls back all the edits you made since you started the edit session or since your last save. Make sure the data is not registered as versioned. However, the delete is prevented if the record has any matching child records and the following error message is displayed: You create the first version by making a child version of the Default version.

For features that were created while offline, the creator name value is set to the user who took the map offline. Leave the move edits to base option unchecked, and click OK. To open an edit session, click Start Editing on the Editor drop-down list of the Editor toolbar.

Publishing a WFS-T service. You will have to unregister the dataset as versioned before proceeding. Any user can view the datasets in the version, but only the owner can edit them.

In other words, two editors who edit simultaneously see only their own edits.

How To: DBMS referential integrity with non-versioned editing

For example, suppose you have a map document containing a feature class. For this reason, data administrators will need to plan for their storage and periodic compression operations to maintain optimum performance. What is a version? By default, all edit sessions in ArcMap are versioned edit sessions.

The changes made by the editors are then checked and adjusted if necessary. However, if you intend to edit the data published in the service with a non—WFS-T client, such as ArcMap, there are some important things to remember: Creating and editing child versions of the published version may also cause similar problems if changes are reconciled and posted into the published version.ArcGIS provides the ability to edit non-versioned data with ArcMap.

Non-versioned editing utilizes a DBMS transaction when editing feature classes and tables. During non-versioned editing, the transaction's duration begins with the first edit operation after start editing and continues until Stop Editing or Save edits.

Update the PK value to a unique, non NULL value and then insert the feature to the DBMS. Note: Use the Editor > Options dialog box to display the Attribute Inspector before storing the feature.

Additionally, ArcGIS automatically sets the value of any fields with a NOT NULL constraint to avoid violating the DBMS constraint. In traditional versions, other users reading the version you've posted to do not see the results of the post until they refresh their versioned workspaces.

Posting cannot be undone, since you are applying changes to a version you are not currently editing. Learn how to post changes. After posting, you can continue to make more edits in your version. In a multiuser editing environment, versioning is used to avoid the overhead of storing redundant data while maintaining data snapshots and alternate views.

When collaborating from ArcGIS Online to ArcGIS Enterprise and editor tracking is enabled, all layers from feature layers in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise will have editor tracking enabled.

If you enable editor tracking after adding the feature layer to the collaboration, the receiving organizations will not have editor tracking enabled.
