Thus, his debut album Mirrorwriting has been very much eagerly awaited. His fusion of dubstep, soul, funk and pop music creates this set of very good songs, each with its own emphasis, which flow effortless and through each other, held together by his stunning voice.

Indeed the album is not particularly unprecedented and it is not to be seen as some revolutionary piece. But for the most part, Woon strikes a terrific balance between convention and subversion. This is no minimalist, post dubstep album. His mother was a session singer; Woon went to the Brit school.

He is not to be compared to James Blake and to compare him to Jessie J would just be insulting. Sadly, neither is included here.

Woon has also absorbed the lessons of the xx, and has written a great deal of space and claustrophobia into his dozen album tracks. At the start of the year I had become obsessed with Jamie Woon.
